Gypsies and Travellers experience the worst health of any group in England (Department of Health); they are considered ‘hard to reach communities’; they often do not access services through lack of knowledge or fear of racism and prejudice. They experience huge levels of racism nationally and locally and there is little understanding by many service providers about who Gypsies and Travellers are. 25% of Gypsies and Travellers are technically homeless, with no place to legally park their living vehicles, and Gypsy and Traveller children are described by Ofsted as being the most at risk in the education system.
